It still isnt going to keep up with Alt Freeride and Freeride boards like the Y, Hybrid, Optimistic or Pick Your Line but it does really well for a directional twin. On Snow Feel/Skidded Turns: The Jones Mountain Twin is a super stable ride but isnt catchy. This is a great board for hard to icy snow. All of us who rode it found us passing everyone on long flat cat tracks. The 156 and 153 both had a bouncy nose/tail but a base with above average glide. Close to Reference and Set all the way back. Flex:This year the flex is a little bit more stiff in the tip and tail but it seems about the same in the middle. Last year it already had more camber than many of the YES boards and this year it seems like it has even more camber than before. Edge Hold: Really strong grip without being grabby. We all love the more pronounced camber upgrade along with the set back of -20mm. I can only recomand this board .. Just took my 2015 Mountain Twin out for a breaking in yesterday. The Jones isnt a chunder buster but its pretty good passing through a tracked out snow line without getting messy or bucking you. If I can only take one board on a road trip this would be it. Its not for the kind of rider that wants a forgiving easy board to skid your turns. **For 2020 & 2021 the YES Ghost now has Slamback Inserts as well so it isnt as far behind as the standard in powder this year. Flex: This is the softest board Jones makes in my opinion. It has much more of a normal snowboard feel and isnt over grippy but when you hit a hard patch its definitely helpful compared to a board without it. Speed: The Jones Mountain Twin 2014-2013 is great at almost any speed. Also, the limited stance width options might be tough for riders who prefer a wider stance. Get the Ghost if you want something more powerful on a carve and more pop and you dont mind it being less forgiving. So, all in all, The YES Standard offers up a great all-mountain ride that gives you a little taste of what a Freeride board is like in powder when setting back and a strong all-mountain freestyle ride on non-powder days. Precious Good Ride dollars were spent to buy this and review it. Needless to say it was the unanimous favorite in the All Mountain Category. Its -20mm set back on the effective edgebut more like -38 mm (1.5) set back on the board. 165W: 12-13 The Jones MT is better than the Capita and Burton. I've narrowed it down to the Jones Mountain Twin, the Captia DOA, and the YES Standard. However slow turn initiation for smaller boot riders, although not as bad as toe/heel drag, sucks a lot too. It needs a pretty responsive binding and boot to start to respond and many of us have felt it a little slow in the trees. Final Thoughts on Jones Frontier vs. Mountain Twin It feels more like a 3 and it can butter now. Riders:James, Jimbo, Matt, Peter and a friend of ours named Ren, I'd ridden Death Grip and it works while not being intrusive. I havent ridden the Standard in powder but did with the Yes Optimistic 2015 and it had a really easy float. Its just another improvement on the existing ride. Speed: Good mountain speed and we had no problem with a strong straight line. Board: The Jones Mountain Twin. The mountain twin is $120 more than the other two, is it worth the extra price? 160: 10-10.5 Its not as hard to butter as you would think but you do have to put a little more strength into it. yes standard vs jones mountain twin. The Jones MT is better than the Capita and Burton. The rubbery personality of the YES Standard is good for creating a nice protection layer for all that is happening underfoot when you ride. The Standard is basically a true twin with basically a lower volume tail to help with float and likely helps it track a little better when riding your dominant direction. Powder: The extra camber (almost all camber) and centered stance detract from its float from last year. I find myself often recommending it to committed beginners and intermediate riders looking for a one board quiver. Powder: The Jones Twin is not going to have the float that theYes Big Citydoes but it floats very well for a directional twin without a set back. The2013 Jones Mountain Twinis a lot different than the2011 and 2012 models. In addition the build quality is much better than the older models. Switch: I really wasnt buying into the directional volume twin thing at first but after riding switch with a centered stance it felt almost the same. I'm really wanting one board . You realize most if not all of us have not ridden the 19s yet, right? Now there is just a 156 with a similar width to the 2017 156w. Curbside Pickup Available NOW! Jumps: Wish there was a little more pop but everything else about the Jones Mountain Twin does great on kickers any size. We dont feel its a 7 out of 10 but more like a 5 out of 10. It butters more like a mellow park board which is great for some and a surprise for me coming off off of the Globe Traditionalist or boards like Yes Basic Uninc or Typo. The more we rode this the more we liked it. Its just not for everyone anymore like it was last year. Unlike normal Magnetraction this is hardly noticeable unless you look close. Super easy to skid a turn and it works for just about any ability level rider. Its for those that love to carve switch and regular and it does it very well. The sixth insert in each set is set back further than the rest so if your reference stance matches the corresponding sizes reference stance you can still get some set back going on like an all mountain board. I want to start learning some butters and hitting more jumps. Wed say this is closer to the average side of good. Tbh the extra price might be worth it for the performance, and I mean you wont need another snowboard for a while after that. It has many similarities to theYES The Basicbut its a step up in tech and performance. 22.5 in wide 15 -15. Jones Mountain Twin vs. Capita Mercury vs. Yes Standard 2022 versions Both are a bit sluggish turning through the bumps but the MT handles the crowded messy resort snow a bit better than the UMT. Boots: Burton Kendo, Burton Ion, Burton Tourist, Burton Imperial, Burton SLX, Adidas Tactical ADV Uneven Terrain: If your boots fit the mid/wide sizing then you will be able to weave in and out of bumps really well. Flex: This has a medium flex but it still has a very playful buttery feel for how stiff it is. MT is a bit of a beast. Turn Initiation: The Mid-Bite Tech grips but also provides a little faster turn initiation for how much surface area is on snow. So all in all my crew and I had a great time with this ride and I think every one of us would like to have this board in our quiver. Set Up:22.5 Centered 12 front -12 back, Similar Boards (but not the same) That We Compared This To:Korua Otto, Lib Tech Terrain Wrecker, Loaded Algernon, Capita Mercury, YES Ghost, YES Not So Basic Globe. Its nowhere near as easy to jib or butter around as some of the other more freestyle focused hybrid camber boards like the YES Jackpot or even the old Jones Mtn Twin but it isnt bad for a board that focuses more on carving and mountain riding. I am much happier on boards like the YES Not So Basic Globe for my boot size. Then it gets a bump width-wise at 156-159 and it makes it a great board for those 10-12 boots. Switch:Felt more like a twin than a directional twin when riding switch. On top of that there is early rise in the nose/tail and the mellow spoon tech helps this board roll easier into a turn in powder. Pant: Burton AK Gore-Tex Pro 3L Hover Pant, Burton AK Gore-Tex 2L Swash Pant, Burton Gore-Tex Ballast Pant Riders:James, Matt,, Peter, Jimbo and many others There is a very mellow camber between the inserts with a pretty pronounced and extended rocker after. It also depends on your boot size and where you ride the majority of the time. If you are looking for a one board quiver this is why we recommend boards like this because they can double as a set back surfy freeride board when set all the way back and give you a taste of that directional freeride feel. Jones Mountain Twin vs Explorer vs Yes Standard - YouTube I love that it has more camber than the older Nidecker made model but over the years of riding this board Im kind of wanting a little more these days. For me at size 9 boots the 153 would be a great call but the 156 fits my weight better. Because of the set back stance it wont be as easy as the older models but its still pretty close. Pair this with a good shock absorbent binding and its going to be pretty good on the joints. I felt it floated so easy in 1 foot of powder and it wasnt even trying yet. Most YES boards have more camber and provide a more springy turn. Jones All-Mountain Snowboards | REI Co-op For example, the 156 used to have a 23 reference stance and now 23.1 is a wide as you can get on the standard inserts. Pipe: Its a great pipe board. Days: 4 Set Up: Centered 23 wide 15 front -15 back. Skidded Turns: Way easier than last year and you can loose a little control and skid your way out. Home Snowboard Reviews Jones Mountain Twin 2011-2023 Snowboard Review. Its a board you can lap the park with the Yes Standard all day. TheJones Mountain Twin 2012-2011is a pretty fun ride that many of us here at The Good Ride really enjoy. For jumping, this board has a nice, predictable pop to it. So the 2018 review still stands and the changes weren't big enough to tax Jones to borrow the board again. 162: 12-13 So other than the slightly slow turn initiation Id say that this is a board that can make the average rider (like us) happy just about any where on the mountain. It can also stop in the pipe and jump park no problem as well as hit some mellow jibs. Other than that the Jones Mountain Twin floats almost as well or almost as well as many dedicated powder boards. You know meBiestythe guy who writes all this shit. Jones always puts out a board with a fast base. No problem in powder. Not a lot but a little. The 2018 Yes Standard had a major overhaul. From experience? Approximate Weight: We were impressed with its ability to flex when you need it on the tip/tail. For the rider who rides in hard to soft and onlyoccasionalice you will be more than happy with the edge hold. Bindings: Union Atlas, Union Superpro with team ankle straps (similar to the contact but with taller straps), Burton Genesis, Burton Genesis X. Jimbo and Zobel, with their size 11s, were fine with the turn initiation though. Days:50+ Set Up: 22.75 Centered 15 front -15 back. I demoed the Burton Process, Capita Merc, and Jones Mountain twin this winter. However if you are a strong technical pipe rider you will prefer the extra pop from the standard that will help you boost more. There is much more control between the feet, excellent edge hold and a good rocker shape after the bindings to make this a great pipe board. Edge hold was fantastic. You can really lay it out. Many boards personalities change acording to the conditions but the Jones Mountain Twin does not and thats hard to do in this hybrid world of snowboards. Centered for more all mountain freestyle riding and directional for powder or more directional all mountain riding. Post author: Post published: June 10, 2022; Post category: printable afl fixture 2022; Post comments: . That combined with the slam back inserts ( 1 x 2 set 1.5 back) makes it a great take on a modern all mountain board. It's just okay at pow, and pretty good in the park. With this board I'll easily be advanced, boarding on expert by the end of the season. Conditions: Really good Sierra snow with ony a few hard patches. Flex/Buttering: The Yes Standard has a flex that is softer than what YES says so its easier on snow than you would think to butter. Its also pretty strong if you want to center it up for switch powder riding so its a pretty versatile powder ride. You can easily spend a whole day lapping the pipe with the Jones. That combined with the early rise rocker in the nose gives much better float than most mountain freestyle twins that have minimal set back on board that is often closer to 1 back from the center of the board. We didnt try this in powder but based on our experience in powder with former models we just know the new nose, although shorter will float just fine. Again its all about compromising with a one quiver board and I think most prefer the extra float in powder. yes standard vs jones mountain twin. Jumps: Pretty good pop here. Still its easy to butter. At size 10-11 it would turn really well and most would call it med/fast edge to edge. The 2023 Jones Tweaker Snowboard Review | The Angry Snowboarder Pipe: The improved edge hold will make this a great pipe board. So just to get a little into the techthe Jones Mountain Twin has about a 50/50 camber rocker combo and a set back camber so there is more rocker in the nose than the tail. Its easy on approach and forgiving on the landing. Really engaging the sidecut makes the Jones Mountain Twin grip and carve well in most condition you want to ride. It carves groomers pretty darn well and handles deep Japanese pow effortlessly. The 2018 156 Yes Standard was just not that fun for me and my size 9 boots compared to the 2017 model. 151: 8-9 The Jones Mountain Twin can skid turns too. Capita Mercury. Riders:James (Size 9, 510 185-190lbs) Capita's Death Grip and Yes' Mid-bite are essentially polar opposites of one another. It is ahead of disrupted sidecuts like from Arbor and Jones or mellow mag from Lib-Tech/Gnu. The mellow mag has no grab in powder or soft snow which this board excels in and it holds pretty well in hard conditions. Switch: So this is called a Directional Volume Twin and that means its a twin on sidecut with a centered stance but the tail has less surface area than the nose. This isnt boring though and you can still get some good turns with the YES Standard. So basically its got about as good carving ability as you can get for the amount of float you get in powder. With the stance set a little bit back it can be an all mountain directional carver. It doesnt quite feel like a true twin but it is super close to the point you might not notice. Also if there are any contradictions between the video review and written, go with whats said in the written review. The stance this year is centered where last year it had a -10mm set back. Powder: So Yes says this board is centered but if yourstance width matches the reference stance you can get back a lot with the Slam Back inserts. Its nothing like its bigger brother theJones Flagshipor its cousin theYes Big Citybut it does a good job with most speed. Powder: The -20mm setback is now identical to the now discontinued YES Big City so it will be a little short of borderline excellent and do a great job in powder. If you get this board its meant to be ridden switch a lot so dont buy it if you are a directional rider. I'm fairly experienced. Especially in the tip/tail. We do make money from the Where To Buy links, but this is our best attempt at an honest and objective review from an average riders perspective.
